The thematic exhibition “A Journey Inward – Urban Rumors” offers two aspects of contemporary narratives, which might be considered also as two approaches on reality of our days: one is focusing on enigmatic, highly personal, psychical and intimate experiences and often disturbing, confusing, unsettling processes inside of our deep inwardness, the other approach reflects phenomenon of urban culture with its countless and unpredictable phenomena that surround us and influence – often unconsciously – our behaviour and thinking, our gestures and reactions. Fragments of a fragmented world, flashes and sounds, details of never completely precepted and understood messages, logos and emblems, visual signs and acoustical marks, all are mixing in an intriguing complexity of urban life.

While the first part of the exhibition conducts the visitors to follow the artists on their journey into the dark realm of inwardness with its fascinating but at the same time somewhat destabilising racconts and tales, the second part of the show reveals intellectually complex, sometimes subversive and ironic messages inspired by the urban tumults and by the many layered sociocultural context created by contemporary city life. Interestingly, certain cinematographic and theatral elements are mixing with utopian visions of future megapolis as well, as textual messages and visual logos are mixing with real banal objects and architectural fragments, which fill our everyday life and at the same time signalise intellectual perspectives or imaginary adventures.

The presented works of art in the exhibition “A Journey Inward – Urban Rumors” are exclusively focused on drawing, as one of the most representative media of contemporary artistic expression.

The artistic competence of drawing – through its spontaneous and personal language, through its sensitivity and intimacy, through the suggestive power of unlimited improvisation which doesn’t need neither a perfect and definitive execution, nor a definitive monumental, closed and rigid form – enables to transmit deeply subjective, often hidden or difficultly communicable messages. Contemporary drawing take more and more place withing artistic creation of our days exactly because its highly empathic nature, because of its language-like immediacy, which seems to catch the very real and basic experience of uncertainty of our epoch.
